No, the root canal treatment itself is usually not painful. Before the procedure, the tooth is completely numbed with local anesthesia, so you hardly feel anything during treatment. The pain before treatment caused by the inflammation is usually much worse than any discomfort afterward.

Mild pain and pressure sensitivity after a root canal treatment are normal and usually subside within 2-3 days. In most cases, discomfort disappears completely after about a week. If pain persists longer or intensifies, we recommend a check-up appointment at our Vienna practice.
